TOY STORY 2

Director of Photography, Camera & Staging

This is an example of a scene where we to applied many of the concepts of live-action cinematography to animation. We planned a cg animated shoot (inside the computer), with multiple camera setups to capture the action from a variety of angles and carefully designed specific shots. These allowed the editors to cut creatively, shaping a dynamic and more cinematic scene. Once we identified which shots were in the cut, the camera team worked each individual shot to refine the blocking, camera movement, and composition in preparation for animation. We applied this process to most of the movie, including more dramatic and sensitive scenes such as Woody's Restoration and Jessie's Story.
